Who we are

Families Fighting Hereditary Cancer was founded by sisters, Sheila Adams Gardner, Patricia Cifax, and Jacinta Tatum. Their journey began in 2023, after learning that they each carried the genetic mutation RAD 51 D. This mutation elevated their risks for breast and ovarian cancers. The trio lost their mother to liver cancer of unknown origin in 2016. Additionally, nearly a dozen other relatives (on both their maternal and paternal sides) were diagnosed with various cancers. Half of those relatives did not survive.

The sisters chose prophylactic surgeries to manage their cancer risks related to RAD 51 D. Aware that the science of genetic testing is ever-evolving, they continue to actively pursue additional measures to surveil and manage other cancer risks.

The peace of knowing that they will NEVER get ovarian cancer and have reduced their chances of getting breast cancer by 95% has fueled their passion to educate other families and advocate for greater access to genetic testing. They began FFHC in the summer of 2024, to encourage other families to fight against hereditary cancer. Join them in spreading the message:
